Turf Team Lead – Grounds – FT

JOB PURPOSE
Responsible for oversight of the Midwestern Turf Team and the organization of mowing, trimming, and care of the lawns across the Midwestern campus. The Turf Team Lead must work to ensure the campus reflects an attractive, accessible, and welcoming environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Perform groundskeeping duties
  • Organize and prioritize Turf Team efforts in groundskeeping duties
  • Complete preventative maintenance on landscaping equipment
  • Cut lawn using hand, power, or riding mowers, trim and edge around walks, flower beds, and buildings
  • Trim trees to maintain proper growth or to eliminate a danger threat
  • Plant and maintain ornamental grasses and flowers on a seasonal basis
  • Maintain clean work environment
  • Shovel snow and apply ice treatment to provide safe environment for staff, visitors, and students
  • Remove unsightly trash and debris from public areas by regularly inspecting grounds
  • Must be able to prioritize tasks and work through them to completion
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
Include, but not limited to
  • Christian with high integrity, actively pursuing a relationship with God
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Familiar with common landscaping equipment and tools
  • Must be able to organize and prioritize turf maintenance with little supervision
  • Must be able to properly interpret manuals, product directions, and safety directions
  • Positive attitude
  • Self-starter with a desire and willingness to learn
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Communicate with people on campus in a professional manner; must be professional and personable
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Must be a team player and committed to working in a quality environment
  • Must hold a valid drivers license
  • Able to pass background screening, including driving record
  • Eligible to work in the United State

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • On average – Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm
  • Occasionally required to work evenings or weekends
  • May be required to work in extreme weather conditions
  • Frequent exposure to dampness, humidity, toxic chemicals, exhaust fumes, gasoline and diesel fuels, motor oil, and solvents
  • Clean, casual, informal attire which reflects well on Midwestern, our campus, and our mission.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Able to operate small and large power equipment
  • Work may be repetitive and physically demanding, requiring frequent bending, kneeling, lifting, and shoveling.
  • Must be able to push, pull, lift or move 75 – 100 pounds
  • Able to reach with hands and arms
