Landscape Team Lead – Grounds – Full Time

JOB PURPOSE
Responsible for oversight of the Landscaping Team and the cultivation and care of the landscaping across the Midwestern campus. The Landscape Team Lead must work to ensure the campus reflects an attractive, accessible, and welcoming environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Perform landscaping and grounds keeping duties
  • Water and fertilize beds and trees as needed
  • Apply chemical weed and/or prevention topicals as needed
  • Maintain, replace or remove indoor plants as needed
  • Complete preventative maintenance on landscaping equipment
  • Trim trees to maintain proper growth or to eliminate a danger threat, including removal of dead or damaged tree limbs or branches.
  • Remove dead or diseased trees and foliage
  • Trim and weed multiple flower beds and containers
  • Clean dirt and/or debris from all equipment and tools after each use and before storing
  • Return all equipment, tools, and campus vehicles to designated storage area following each shift
  • Keep dirt, sawdust, and other debris swept up and cleaned from work benches and floors in shop and garages
  • Maintain clean work environment
  • Frequently conduct research on plants and/or products that are used on Campus
  • Shovel snow and apply ice treatment to provide safe environment for staff, visitors, and students
  • Remove unsightly trash and debris from public areas by regularly inspecting grounds
  • Must be able to create plans for schedules and flower beds then be able to act on them
  • Check for disease or damage
  • Organize Seasonal flower orders
  • Must be able to prioritize tasks and work through them to completion
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS
  • Christian with high integrity, actively pursuing a relationship with God
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Positive attitude with a desire and willingness to learn
  • Able to multi-task, analyze workload, and prioritize as necessary for the benefit of the department
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Communicate with people on campus in a professional manner; must be professional and personable
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Must be a team player and committed to working in a quality environment
  • Familiarity with outdoor plants and their maintenance required
  • Must be able to organize and prioritize plant maintenance with little supervision
  • Must be able to clearly direct Landscaping Technician and other helpers in landscaping work
  • Able to utilize tools and equipment to accomplish tasks
  • Capable of independent work
  • Able to properly interpret manuals, product directions, and safety directions
  • Have a sharp eye for plant placement, weeds, and plant stress
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License
  • Able to pass a background check including driving record
  • Eligible to work in the United States

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • On average – Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm
  • Occasionally required to work evenings or weekend
  • May be required to work in extreme weather conditions
  • Frequent exposure to dampness, humidity, toxic chemicals, exhaust fumes, gasoline and diesel fuels, motor oil, and solvents
  • Clean, casual, informal attire which reflects well on Midwestern, our campus, and our mission
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Frequently required to sit or stand for periods of time at desk or computer station
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Able lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
