About:

Reports to: Pastor
Function: Responsible for the organization and implementation of a comprehensive ministry to children ages birth through sixth grade and their families.
Supervises: Weekday Preschool Director, paid and volunteer childcare workers, Children’s Summer Intern, and all outreach children ministries.

Responsibilities:

  • Education
    • Work with the Pastor to plan, coordinate, and evaluate a comprehensive children’s ministry, including the research and selection of teaching curriculum.
    • Enlist and provide training for all preschool and children’s teachers.
    • Conduct training for all paid workers and volunteers in the area of children’s ministry.
    • Coordinate preschool and children’s groups regarding the use of program materials, equipment, supplies, and space.
  • Ministry
    • Recommend and implement new ministries deemed necessary to reach and disciple children and their families. Work with the Personnel Committee if this requires the hiring of additional personnel.
    • Maintain and participate in active visitation and outreach ministry within your ministry area and assist in the visitation of the sick, hospital patients, and newcomers.
    • Assist the Pastor in the area of counseling.
    • Assist in baptisms and other elements of the worship services as directed by the Pastor.
    • Work in coordination with the Children’s Ministry Committee
  • Activities
    • Plan and conduct year-round projects and activities for preschoolers and children and their families.
    • Organize, plan and coordinate Vacation Bible School or similar summer outreach for children.
    • Enlist and evaluate personnel under your area of supervision.
    • Develop and implement a system of evaluations of paid employees under your supervision.
    • Implement a system of evaluations for volunteers and teachers utilizing ministry leaders and department directors.
    • Coordinate activities with other staff members, as needed.
    • Prepare and administer an annual budget for the Children’s Ministry.
  • Safety
    • Develop and implement programs and written handbooks including, but not limited to, the following:
      • Hygiene, safety and security of the children
      • Policies for teachers, paid workers and volunteers
      • Background checks of teachers, paid workers and volunteers
  • Maintain your ministry area website link.
  • Work with denominational and interdenominational leaders in areas of mutual concern.
  • Maintain a Christian spirit and attitude with everyone and assist other staff members as needed.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Pastor.
