Adjunct Graphic Design Professor

Job Purpose

Spurgeon College, the undergraduate institution of Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, maintains a pool of qualified individuals to serve as part-time adjunct faculty for courses in our Graphic Design program. These classes range from Art History to Digital Photography and from Typography to Software Techniques. Courses are taught in the fall and spring semester on our main campus in Kansas City, MO. In partnership with our Faculty Coordinator for the Graphic Design Program, adjuncts will be responsible for developing and teaching engaging course curriculum in line with the mission of Spurgeon College.

Essential Functions:

  • Design and teach onsite courses within the specific discipline for Spurgeon College.
  • Design and publish course syllabi at least two weeks before the start of the semester.
  • Utilize Spurgeon College’s online learning management system, Canvas, to facilitate professor communication and resources.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to all enrolled students on course requirements.
  • Support the student-success initiatives of Spurgeon College in each specific course taught.
  • Be available to communicate with students outside of class time for additional assistance as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education: Adjunct faculty must, at minimum, have earned a Master’s degree in the specific discipline listed above or a Master’s degree with graduate hours in the specific discipline listed above.
  • Experience: Prior experience in classroom instruction in a higher education setting is preferred. 
  • Skills: 
    • Proven godly character
    • Demonstrated commitment to a local church
    • Demonstrated innovative teaching methodologies to engage learners 
    • Proven instructional technology skills, as well as ability to learn new technology quickly
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, including oral communication and written communication
    • Committed to a focus on student success
  • Doctrinal: All faculty members must affirm the institution’s guiding documents, including the Baptist Faith & Message 2000, the Danvers Statement on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood, the Chicago Statement on Biblical Inerrancy, and the MBTS statement on Sex, Sexuality, and Gender Identity.
