Hi! My name is Jason S. DeRouchie, and I serve as Research Professor of Old Testament and Biblical Theology at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. My heart beats “for the Church” of Jesus both near and far, and I am delighted to serve with Midwestern’s strong, God-dependent faculty in helping to mobilize biblically faithful, Christ-exalting, globally minded Christian leaders who will seek the obedience of faith for the sake of Christ’s name among the nations. I am committed to spread a passion for God’s supremacy in all things for the joy of all people through Jesus. We glorify God most when he satisfies us most, and I seek to enter the classroom as a lead worshipper, guiding rigorous original language exegesis that leads to faithful theology, life, and ministry.
I teach both MDiv and PhD students and direct doctoral dissertations. My personal research interests include biblical hermeneutics, the New Testament use of the Old Testament, Hebrew discourse analysis, Deuteronomy, Zephaniah, the nature and relationship of the biblical covenants, seeing and savoring Jesus in all of Scripture, and the Christian’s relationship to Old Testament laws and promises. The Lord has called me to train future and current church leaders to faithfully handle the Old Testament and to help them articulate how the whole of Christian Scripture progresses, integrates, and climaxes in Christ, for the glory of God and the good of his church. I fulfill this through teaching Old Testament and biblical theology, mentoring students, leading oversees missional training and service trips, and writing clear, compelling, and faithful works that can serve the church worldwide.
I am a churchman with a heart for global missions, and my family and I are committed to regular engagement in Africa’s horn to help the church there to train her leaders, care for the poor, evangelize the lost, and reach the unreached. My wife Teresa and I have been married since 1994, and God has blessed us with six children, three of whom came from Ethiopia. Together we cherish investing in men and women who are training for ministry. As a family, we also enjoy camping, hiking, canoeing, and moose-watching, and our favorite place to get away is the north shore of Lake Superior.
