How is God at work in Scotland?
I am a transplanted New Yorker who came to Edinburgh in 1991 as a missionary, helping establish a youth and college ministry in a city-center church. Despite Scotland’s strong secular culture, we have seen God at work among young people. Our focus is clear, uncompromising Bible teaching, and young people respond to a direct gospel presentation reinforced by real-life witness.
Our church is located on the Royal Mile between Holyrood Palace and Edinburgh Castle, with 350 members. Many of our missionaries were college students from our church. Since Covid, about 33% of our congregation is Hong Kong Chinese due to recent immigration to the UK. Many are not yet Christians but are being drawn by God’s love and the gospel message.
How has Midwestern Seminary prepared you?
I recently received my DMin degree in Christian Leadership. My dissertation focused on developing a strategy for reciprocal cross-cultural integration of Hong Kong immigrants and the church body at Carrubbers Christian Centre in Edinburgh. My studies at MBTS provided the opportunity to research a timely ministry challenge and shape a practical response rooted in our context.
My dissertation allowed me to work with the leaders and congregation of the church to identify a very relevant ministry challenge and develop a strategy to help address it. We are now looking forward to how the Lord will use this research to further His glory and the joy of the nations.
