Study For the Church

The standard MDiv degree program requires 81
semester hours. It is designed for individuals who anticipate
serving as pastors, evangelists, associate pastors,
missionaries, or in other ministries that emphasize
expository preaching or teaching of the Word of God.

The Master of Theological Studies degree is a 45-hour program, usually requiring two years of full-time study.

Students graduating with the Master of Theological Studies degree will be able to do the following:

1. Interpret Christian Scripture with hermeneutical and exegetical excellence,
2. Confess Christian doctrine with biblical, theological, and historical awareness,
3. Employ research skills in an area of theological studies for the Church

The Master of Biblical Studies degree is a 45-hour program usually requiring two years or more of academic study.

Program Outcomes

Students graduating with the Master of Biblical Studies degree will be able to do the following:

1. Interpret Christian Scripture with hermeneutical and exegetical excellence
2. Confess Christian doctrine with biblical, theological, and historical awareness
3. Employ research skills in an area of biblical scholarship for the Church

The Master of Applied Theology degree is a 45-hour program usually requiring two years or more of academic study.

Students graduating with the Master of Applied Theology degree will be able to do the following:

1. Interpret Christian Scripture with hermeneutical and exegetical excellence
2. Confess Christian doctrine with biblical, theological, and historical awareness
3. Employ practical skills in an area of applied theology for the Church

The Master of Christian Studies (MCS) degree is a 36-hour program usually requiring 1.5 years or more of academic study.

Students graduating from the MCS program will be able to do the following:

1. Master a discernible field of study in the area of applied theology.
2. Demonstrate advanced skill in scholarly research and evaluation.
3. Demonstrate advanced skill in writing and theological instruction.
4. Exercise the liberty to develop and defend a research dissertation in applied theology.

The Master of Arts in Biblical Counseling is a 60-hour degree usually requiring two years or more of academic study.

Students graduating from the MA in Biblical Counseling degree program will be able to do the following:

1. Evaluate secular and integrative counseling models based on biblical and historical perspectives.
2. Interpret and apply Scripture to soul-care in local church and related settings using appropriate hermeneutical principles.
3. Address the most common counseling problems and challenges of counseling using appropriate methods of biblical counseling.
4. Formulate a personal strategy of biblical counseling for ministry in the local church.

The Master of Arts in Christian Education is a 60-hour degree usually requiring two years or more of academic study.

Students graduating from the MACE degree program will be able to do the following:

1. Demonstrate knowledge, understanding, and application of biblical, theological, historical, philosophical, and psychological foundations of making disciples
2. Demonstrate knowledge, understanding, and application of developmental theories and their application to education
3. Demonstrate knowledge, understanding, and skills of the operative principles and administrative approaches in the church
4. Demonstrate knowledge, understanding, and application in discipleship, evangelism, teaching, leadership training, and age group ministry.

The Master of Arts in Intercultural Studies is a 36-hour degree usually requiring one year or more of academic study.

Students graduating from the MA in Intercultural Studies program will be able to do the following:

1. Interpret Scripture using theologically and historically informed principles.
2. Demonstrate skill in communicating biblical truth cross-culturally.
3. Demonstrate cooperative leadership skills in a missions context.
4. Identify biblically faithful and culturally relevant strategies for church planting in a missions context.

The MAWM is designed to be completed by musically proficient students in two years of full-time study.

Accordingly, the duration of this degree depends on the level of competency brought by the applicant in music theory and instrumental practice.

Students graduating with a Master of Arts in Worship Ministries will be able to do following:

1. Demonstrate appropriate competencies in music theory, history, and literature
2. Demonstrate a high level of applied musical skill and performance discipline
3. Demonstrate administrative and leadership skill that is appropriate to worship and church music ministry
4. Integrate a Christian lifestyle with professional musical development
5. Demonstrate a balanced approach to the use of traditional and contemporary music styles.

To meet the needs of students preparing for ministries with specific concentrations, Midwestern offers ten concentration tracks within the MDiv degree. All MDiv degree concentrations require 90 semester hours.

The MCS does not feature any concentrations.

The MABC is a concentration of the Master of Arts program at Midwestern Seminary.

The MACE is a concentration of the Master of Arts program at Midwestern Seminary.

The MAIS is a concentration of the Master of Arts program at Midwestern Seminary.

Students may pursue applied music lessons from voice, guitar, or piano.

The MDiv degree typically requires four years of full-time academic study or its equivalent.
