Guest & Visitation Policy
All residents are to honor and respect the preferences of their roommates regarding any visitors, either individuals or groups. It is highly recommended that roommates discuss expectations at the beginning of the semester. Violations of the visitation policy should be reported to the Men’s RA, the Women’s RA, the Assistant Director of Student Life, or Midwestern Security. To disregard this policy will result in consequences as determined by the Dean of Students.
If a single resident desires to have a same-sex friend sleep over for a night or two, he/she must (a) obtain permission from all roommates prior to the guest arriving; and (b) receive permission from the RA by email or text communication prior to the guest arriving. If the student wishes to host the guest for more than two nights, then (a) prior approval must be given by all roommates; and (b) prior approval must be given by email or text communication by the RA; and (c) any guest staying more than three consecutive days must obtain permission from the Assistant Director of Student Life.
Residence Hall
Each hallway within the Residence Hall is assigned to either males or females. No opposite sex visitors are allowed on the hallway at any point in time. Immediate family members (i.e. fathers, sisters, etc.) are the only exception to this rule, but must be preceded with permission from a Resident Assistant (RA). The presence of a visiting family member of the opposite sex must be announced on the hall prior to his/her arrival on the floor.
Apartments
In the apartments, men and women are permitted to visit each other’s apartments as long as it is a group setting (i.e. at least 3 people are present, not counting the roommate). Immediate family members (i.e. fathers, sisters, etc.) are the only exception to this rule. No opposite sex visitor should stay past 12:00 midnight on Sunday through Thursday nights, or past 2:00 A.M. on Friday and Saturday nights. If the roommate requests that the visitor leave earlier, then that request should be honored. In an apartment, the living room and kitchen are considered “community areas.” The bedrooms, however, are always off limits to members of the opposite sex.
