Jason DeRouchie Releases Enjoying Jesus’s Bible with Cruciform Press

KANSAS CITY, Mo—Midwestern Seminary is pleased to announce the release of Jason DeRouchie’s new book, Enjoying Jesus’s Bible (Cruciform Press, 2025). DeRouchie, who serves as Research Professor of Old Testament and Biblical Theology at Midwestern Seminary,

“I am very thankful for the release of Dr. Jason DeRouchie’s Enjoying Jesus’s Bible” said President Jason Allen. “Many Christians are puzzled about how to read and properly interpret the Old Testament as Christian Scripture. In this book, Jason offers a winsome and clear account for how to read the Old Testament with the light and lens of Christ. I pray the Lord will use this book in immeasurable ways to help the church read the first third of their Bible well.”

Adapted from his larger volume Delighting in the Old Testament: Through Christ and For Christ (Crossway, 2024), this new work offers a more concise and accessible guide for laypeople, pastors, and ministry leaders seeking to understand and apply the Old Testament in light of Christ.

DeRouchie commented, “I want Christian laypeople to recognize that the Old Testament is Christian Scripture and to use all of Scripture to embrace ‘the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ’ (2 Cor. 4:6). Enjoying Jesus’s Bible captures in a more manageable way the gift the Old Testament is for Christians.”

He went on to say, “Enjoying Jesus’s Bible supplies a biblical framework for reading the Old Testament in the ways God intends, DeRouchie says, seeing Jesus where Scripture discloses Him, hoping in all God’s promises for us, and living faithfully in relation to God’s law. This short book is loaded with principles for biblical interpretation and practical theology that exalts Christ.”

DeRouchie contends that the church cannot afford to neglect or marginalize the Old Testament. “God gave us His Word in a book, and our eternal joy depends on whether we read this book cover to cover in the right way,” he said, referencing 1 Corinthians 2:13-14 and 2 Timothy 3:16-17.

He further stressed that the gospel itself was first promised in the Old Testament. “To relish the gospel wholly requires that we see Jesus rightly in the initial part of our Christian Scriptures.”

Recovering Joy in the Old Testament

DeRouchie admits, “The verb ‘enjoy’ is not commonly linked with the Old Testament.” Yet, as he goes on to say, Scripture itself advocates for the many benefits of the Old Testament for Christians.

“Far too many people fail to recognize that “whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction” (Romans 15:4) and that Paul had in mind his Old Testament when he said that “all Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable” (2 Timothy 3:16) and then charged the Christian pastor, “Preach the word” (2 Timothy 4:2).”

In Enjoying Jesus’s Bible, readers are invited to recover the joy of seeing Christ in Moses, the Prophets, and the Writings. DeRouchie demonstrates how the Old Testament equips the church to behold God’s glory, trust His promises, and live in holiness.

He said, “I long for Christians at all stages to better understand how the Old Testament aids us in ‘beholding the glory of the Lord’ (2 Corinthians 1:18), in grasping how God’s ‘precious and very great promises’ even from the Old Testament aid our growth in godliness (2 Peter 1:4), and how all of Moses’s law still matters for Christians when rightly considered through how Jesus fulfills the law (Matthew 5:17–19).”

Sharing his hope for this new book, DeRouchie shared, “I long for Christians truly to enjoy Jesus’s Bible for God’s glory and their good. The Old Testament is Christian Scripture that God gave to help us see and savor His glory, His promises, and His law in the face of Christ.”

Enjoying Jesus’s Bible is now available for purchase.
