Faculty Q&A
Understanding the FTC vision impacts my classroom/teaching in the fact that many, if not most, churches are underserved when it comes to communications methodologies and modalities. Thus, their effectiveness in proclaiming the gospel is often limited. My goal is to prepare the next generation of ministry and marketplace leaders to have the communication skills necessary to lead and be successful in these environments while also having hearts desiring to reach a lost and dying culture with the message of Jesus Christ.
I love teaching at MBTS/Spurgeon College because of the students that the Lord guides to our K.C. campus and through our Global Campus. They are the focus, and interacting with them brings me great joy and energy. Being able to use the education, training, and life experiences that God has led me to and through over the years, and being able to pass that along to the next generation so they can lead people to Christ, is the meager offering I can return for the gifting the Lord has placed upon my life. I’m thrilled at the opportunity to serve our Lord and our students in this capacity.
My primary interaction is with undergraduate students in the B.A. in communications degree program. What I’ve found is that the Lord is sending us an amazing next generation of students who have a love and zeal for Jesus with a desire to learn here and then go serve him predominantly in the marketplace. We have graduates of our program who’ve entered public relations, marketing, journalism, and other communications fields who are making a difference in their culture. Not only are they practically applying communications skillsets adroitly, but they are also able to do so from a Christian worldview which impacts their hearts to make a much-needed impact for Christ in their workplace. It is greatly encouraging to see the Lord’s faithfulness in raising up these students to lead and minister for the Kingdom into the future.
