Biography
Ronni Kurtz re-joined the faculty at Midwestern Seminary and Spurgeon College in 2025. He teaches courses in Systematic Theology. His academic interest include theology proper, trinitarianism, prolegomena, and a theology of beauty. He also has a deep care for ecclesiology and the local church and how theology impacts how we worship and follow Christ. Before returning to Midwestern, Dr. Kurtz taught theology at Cedarville University and was also on the faculty here at Midwestern Seminary while he planted and pastored a church in Kansas City, Missouri. Dr. Kurtz holds a PhD in Systematic Theology, a ThM in Pedagogy, and an MDiv from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He also has a BA in Biblical Studies from Southwest Baptist University.
Dr. Kurtz is the author of numerous books and academic articles. His primary area of academic research has been theology proper—focusing on how God’s being impacts divine action. He is the author of Light Unapproachable: Divine Incomprehensibility and the Task of Theology (IVP) and No Shadow of Turning: Divine Immutability and the Economy of Redemption. (Christian Focus) While these works are more academic in nature, he also authors books for pastors and lay readers which seek to connect theological contemplation and the affections. He has a particular interest in how Theology can help Christian’s behold God and apprehend the true, the good, and the beautiful. In this vein, he is the author of Fruitful Theology: How the Life of the Mind Leads to the Life of the Soul and Proclaiming the Triune God: The Life of the Trinity in the Life of the Church.
Dr. Kurtz currently has research projects underway with various publishers in the areas of divine attributes, theological discipleship, and a theology of beauty. He plans to continue to write both at the academic level and with an eye at equipping the local church theological in hopes that they will behold God and all things in relation to God.
Beyond academics, Dr. Kurtz has a deep appreciation for literature, poetry, specialty coffee, and all things St. Louis sports. He is married to Kristen Kurtz and together they have two children—Finley and Cohen.
