Spurgeon Fellows

Interested in church history and Spurgeon’s impact on the church? Midwestern Seminary now has a way to gain valuable ministry experience — under a Spurgeon scholar — while you pursue your studies.

Dr. Geoff Chang believes one of the reasons we love church history is because he believes that history is the pastors’ best friend. As Christians we don’t have to figure everything out from scratch. Instead we can draw from the wisdom of faithful men and women who have gone before us. Dr. Chang’s aim is that this cohort will be able to explore the riches of church history to equip students to better serve the church. Dr. Thomas Kidd also serves as a valued mentor in the program, guiding students with his expertise and experience.

Participants receive a 100% tuition discount for up to 18 on-campus credit hours at the SBC rate during their first year in the program.

Applicants for the academic scholarship must be actively pursuing a Master of Divinity (MDiv) degree.

Cohort Features

100% Tuition Discount

Start seminary with a 100% discount for up to 18 on-campus credit hours at the SBC rate during your first year of study. All students who are admitted to the Spurgeon Fellows cohort will receive a tuition discount.

Study Baptist Theology

This cohort will be reading and discussing primary source documents from the English Reformation, early Baptist history, and of course from Charles Haddon Spurgeon, which will all give us a more robust understanding of what the church is and how we can be faithful ministers of the gospel today.

Cohort Community

Gather each week with Dr. Chang and a small group of other students to reflect, “What can we learn from those who have come before us? What difference do my studies make for my ministry? How can I best serve God’s people?”
