Speakers

    • Jason K. Allen

      Jason K. Allen was elected by the Midwestern Board of Trustees as the Seminary’s fifth president on Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, becoming the youngest seminary president in the Southern Baptist Convention, and one of the youngest presidents in higher education in America. Previously, he served as the vice president for Institutional Advancement at Southern Seminary in Louisville, Ky., and executive director of the Southern Seminary Foundation.
      In addition to his seminary duties, Allen has served as pastor and interim pastor of several Southern Baptist churches. Dr. Allen holds a Bachelor of Science from Spring Hill College in Mobile, Ala., as well as Master of Divinity and Ph.D. degrees from Southern Seminary. Currently, in addition to his responsibilities as president of Midwestern Seminary, he serves the church more broadly through writing and preaching ministries.
      Allen and his wife, Karen, have five children.

    • Matt Carter

      Matt Carter is Pastor for Preaching and Vision at The Austin Stone Community Church in Austin, Texas, which he planted in 2002. A graduate of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (M.Div) and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (D.Min), Matt is also the author of several books, including For The City, Creation Unraveled, and The Real Win. Matt is married to Jennifer, and they have three children: John Daniel, Annie, and Samuel.

    • Ray Ortlund, Jr.

      Pastor Ray Ortlund received a B.A. from Wheaton College, Th.M. from Dallas Theological Seminary, M.A. from The University of California, Berkeley, and Ph.D. from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. Pastor Ortlund served as Associate Professor of Old Testament and Semitic Languages, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, Deerfield, Illinois, from 1989-1998. He was ordained by Lake Avenue Congregational Church, Pasadena, California, in 1975.
      In addition to a number of essays and articles, he has published several books. Ray also participated in The New Living Translation and the English Standard Version of the Bible. He contributed the introduction and study notes to the book of Isaiah in The ESV Study Bible.
      Ray is the President of Renewal Ministries, a regional director in the Acts29 Network and serves on the council of The Gospel Coalition.

    • Matt Chandler

      Matt Chandler is the Lead Teaching Pastor of The Village Church in the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas metroplex and the president of the Acts29 Church Planting Network. An acclaimed preacher and conference speaker, Matt has authored numerous books, including The Explicit Gospel, To Live is Christ, and The Mingling of Souls. Matt is married to Lauren, and they have three children: Audrey, Reid, and Norah.

    • H.B. Charles, Jr.

      H.B. Charles, Jr. has been the pastor of Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida since 2008. Over the course of H.B.’s pastorate, his love for God’s Word, the church, and lost people has resulted in joyfully balancing his pastoral responsibilities with speaking engagements in revivals, conferences, and other church events. He is married to his best friend, Crystal, and they are the proud parents of three children, H.B. Charles III, Natalie Marie and Hailey Breanne. He was a contributor of the Power in the Pulpit, and continues to seek further education to help fulfill his prayerful desire to write and teach alongside his calling to pastoral ministry.

    • Owen Strachan

      Owen Strachan is a graduate of Bowdoin College (A.B. in History), Southern Seminary (M.Div. in Biblical & Theological Studies), and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (Ph.D. in Theological Studies). In roles within the SBC and greater Evangelical sphere, Dr. Strachan serves as president of the Council on Biblical Manhood & Womanhood, whose purpose is “to set forth the teachings of the Bible about the complementary differences between men and women, created equally in the image of God, because these teachings are essential for obedience to Scripture and for the health of the family and the church.”

    • Jared C. Wilson

      Jared Wilson is director of content strategy and managing editor of For The Church at Midwestern Seminary. He's the author of the books Your Jesus is Too Safe, Gospel Wakefulness, Gospel Deeps, The Pastor's Justification, and the Bible study resources Abide, Seven Daily Sins, and Knowing the Bible: Romans. His first novel, Otherworld, a supernatural thriller, was recently released from David C Cook.
      Jared's articles, essays, and short stories have appeared in Rev! Magazine, Tabletalk, Exponential's Leadership Learnings, Pulpit Helps Magazine, Disciple Magazine, Collegiate, Family Life, and at Christianity.com among numerous other publications.
