Job Description:
Title: Director of Next Gen
Reports to: Executive Pastor
Department or Ministry: Students (6th – 12th grade)
Employment Status (FTE/PTE/Contract/Etc.): Full-Time
Exemption Status: Exempt / Minister
This position works at least 40 hours per week.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Develop and articulate a clear vision for West Side Students aligned with West Side’s overall mission/vision.
- Provide strong leadership to a team of volunteer leaders of various ages and stages.
- Design and implement programs, events, and activities for youth and young adults.
- Ensure that events are aligned with the spiritual and physical needs of each group.
- Facilitate opportunities for spiritual growth, discipleship, and biblical education for youth and young adults.
- Implement strategies to help the next gen develop a strong foundation in faith.
- Recruit, train, and empower a team of volunteer leaders to effectively serve.
- Foster positive relationships with parents and families of youth and young adults, keeping them informed and involved in the discipleship of their children.
- Implement and enforce safety protocols to ensure the well-being of youth and young adults during church activities. This includes training volunteers in emergency procedures and risk management as it pertains to the youth.
- Works with the Financial Administrator to develop and manage the annual budget for youth.
- Collaborates with other ministries to ensure seamless transitions for individuals moving through different age groups (especially 5th to 6th grade).
- Coordinates with worship, children’s, discipleship, and outreach ministries.
- Be prepared to handle and respond to crisis situations involving youth, coordinating with appropriate authorities and support services.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Mandatory:
- Bachelor’s degree in theology or biblical studies or similar area of study; if degree is not complete must be working towards a degree and continued employment in this position will be contingent on completion of education.
- 2-4 Years of experience working in youth ministry or similar ministry area.
- Desired:
- Counseling experience is not required but would be beneficial.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both youth, parents, and church leadership.
- Leadership skills; Interpersonal skills and a high emotional intelligence
- Organization skills to help juggle a variety of expectations.
- Spiritual:
- You must be a member in good standing at West Side Community Church, adhere to our Statement of Faith and Lifestyle Agreement.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands:
This position requires sustained energy in a variety of contexts such as late nights, weekend retreats, summers camps, and mission trips. This position requires periods of time sitting at a desk and using a computer.
At Will Statement:
Employment at WSCC is on an at-will basis unless otherwise stated in a written individual employment agreement signed by the board of elders.
This means that either the employee or the church may terminate the employment relationship at any time, for any reason, with or without notice.
