Job Description: Chaplain

  • Must agree with the Norfolk Rescue Mission Statement of Faith/Position statements and be a current member in good standing of a local evangelical Christian church.
  • Would prefer a degree from a Bible College and/or Seminary.
  • During your “on-duty” hours you would run the Mission. You will be the decision maker. Your responsibilities would include, but not be limited to:
    • Welcoming new guests and return guests. New guests would need registered and informed of our guidelines, and evangelized at the time of their check-in.
    • Ensuring the evening meal is conducted appropriately and in such a way as to include our guests in the cleaning up afterward.
    • Giving tours of the Mission, accepting donations, and ensuring all donors sign the Donation book for a receipt.
    • Ensuring the evening chapel service is conducted in such a way as to be honoring to our Lord Jesus Christ. To recruit and organize volunteers to help conduct chapel services.
    • Managing/overseeing the Mission in general, serving as a missionary to the men in your attitude and actions, enforcing the guidelines, and administering disciplinary consequences for non-compliance, as necessary.
    • Teaching, counseling, and following up with the men on jobs, housing, spiritual issues, life situations, finances etc.
    • Conduct weekly evaluations on all ONG men to assess their situation. Determine if men should receive an extension and provide reasoning for your decision.
    • Must be able to be physically active for the entire shift and able to perform various lifting or other physical tasks as needed.
    • Attending Staff Meeting once a week, currently Tuesday at 2:00pm.
    • Completing all appropriate paperwork each shift. (Daily Log, Daily Census, Daily Clean up duties, etc.)
    • Keep the HEART database current throughout each shift.
    • Perform night rounds and make sure the Mission is secure by 10:00pm.
    • Run errands throughout your shift.
    • Manage the Mission’s movie library.
    • Distribute meds in an appropriate manner.
    • Perform an alcohol test on every male guest at least once each night.
    • Perform drug tests as needed.
    • You may be required to perform additional duties as needed.
