Reports To: Head Chef / Food Services Manager

Job Summary: We are seeking a dedicated Sous Chef / Cook to join our culinary team at the Midwestern Cafeteria. The ideal candidate will assist in the preparation and presentation of high-quality meals for students, faculty, and staff, ensuring a welcoming and nourishing dining experience. This role requires a passion for cooking, creativity in menu planning, and a commitment to maintaining a clean and efficient kitchen environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Head Chef in daily kitchen operations, including meal preparation
  • Develop and execute menus that cater to diverse dietary needs and preferences, including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options.
  • Ensure all food is prepared to the highest standards of quality and taste.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen, adhering to all health and safety regulations.
  • Manage inventory, order supplies, and ensure proper storage of ingredients.
  • Train and supervise kitchen staff, fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment.
  • Monitor food costs and work within budgetary constraints.
  • Assist in planning and executing special events and catering services as needed.
  • Stay updated on culinary trends and incorporate new techniques and recipes into the menu.

Qualifications:

  • No experience needed, but preferred
  • Willingness to learn and follow direction
  • Pleasant attitude with the ability to work well with others, problem solve, and work quickly and efficiently
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality dishes.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Hours:

  • Monday thru Thursday – 9:00 am – 6:30 pm
  • Sunday 10:00 am – 6:00 pm
