Overview:
Mt. Vernon Baptist Church is seeking a passionate and dedicated Music Minister to lead and develop a comprehensive music ministry that glorifies God, engages the congregation in worship, and enhances the overall spiritual experience. The Music Minister will work closely with the pastoral staff, worship choir, and church members to plan and execute worship services that align with the mission and vision of the church, focusing on the principles of Character, Competency, and Chemistry in all aspects of ministry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead Worship:
- Lead the congregation in worship during Sunday services and special events, fostering a spirit of reverence and joy.
- Music Program Development:
- Oversee all aspects of the church’s music ministry, including the selection of songs, coordination of musicians, and planning of worship services.
- Choir Leadership:
- Direct and develop the adult, youth, and children’s choirs, ensuring musical excellence and spiritual growth.
- Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with the pastoral team to integrate music that complements the preaching and overall worship experience.
- Rehearsals:
- Organize and lead regular rehearsals for the worship team, choir, and instrumentalists to ensure preparedness and excellence in musical offerings.
- Special Services and Events:
- Plan and coordinate music for special services and events, including but not limited to Christmas, Easter, revivals, and church-wide gatherings, ensuring that the music aligns with the tone and purpose of each occasion.
- Mentorship:
- Provide guidance and mentorship to aspiring musicians and vocalists within the congregation.
- Administration:
- Manage the music ministry budget, purchase music and supplies, and maintain the church’s musical equipment.
- Educational Program Oversight:
- Oversee and evaluate educational programs such as Sunday School and discipleship programs, ensuring the recruitment, training, and development of leaders, assistant directors, teachers, and officers to lead church and music groups.
- Adult Music Ministry:
- Lead and oversee the church’s adult music ministry, recruiting and equipping volunteers and leaders to support and expand the ministry’s impact.
- Staff Liaison:
- Serve as the staff liaison to church committees as designated by the pastor, fostering collaboration and communication between church leadership and committee members.
- Audio/Visual Coordination:
- Work with the Audio/Visual Committee to ensure all sound, lighting, and technical needs are met for worship services and special productions.
- Outreach:
- Encourage and organize community outreach through music, such as concerts, worship nights, or involvement in local events.
- Pastoral Support:
- Assist in outreach visitation, hospital visitation, crisis situations, and other pastoral duties as needed to support the overall ministry of the church.
- Other Duties:
- Complete other ministry tasks as assigned by the pastor to support the overall mission and vision of the church.
Qualifications (Character, Competency, and Chemistry):
- Character:
- A strong, growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ, displaying spiritual maturity, integrity, and a life that reflects biblical values.
- The candidate must be a role model within the church, demonstrating a heart for worship and a commitment to the mission and vision of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church.
- Competency:
- Proficient in voice and at least one instrument preferred, with the ability to lead worship in both traditional and contemporary styles.
- The candidate should be ordained.
- Prior experience in music ministry, choir direction, and worship leadership is preferred.
- Strong organizational skills, the ability to plan and coordinate rehearsals, and a high standard of musical excellence are essential.
- A degree in music or worship studies is preferred but not required.
- Chemistry:
- The ability to build and maintain positive relationships with the pastoral staff, worship team, and congregation.
- The ideal candidate will work well with others, fostering collaboration and unity, and contributing to a harmonious and effective ministry environment.
- A commitment to open communication, teamwork, and supporting the overall church community is vital.
Hours and Compensation:
This is a full-time position, requiring 40 hours per week. The position offers a competitive salary based on experience and qualifications.
