Assistant Teacher – Hope Academy

Position Summary
The HOHKC Assistant Teacher reports to the Academic Lead.  The Assistant Teacher is responsible for overseeing and tracking the academic progress of each resident.  Behavior Management and Student Engagement are critical to this role.  The Assistant Teacher will partner with the Lead Teacher to create a positive and organized learning environment for the residents of the House of Hope KC.

Primary Position Responsibilities =

1) Academic 
Will assist Academic Lead with tracking each resident’s academic progress throughout the semester through progress charts developed with input by each resident.
Provide one-on-one academic support, tutoring, and goal setting to each resident as needed
Alongside Program Coordinator and Academic Lead will develop career shadowing, ministry service events, and field trips to enrich the academic environment.
Share concerns and communicate with Academic Lead and counselors on any concerning trends and/or growth patterns in a particular resident related to their academic progress.
Assist students with any school assignments, alongside Academic Lead.

2) Administrative 
Will assist Academic Lead in communication with residents’ parents about current grades and progress throughout the semester.
Coordinate with School Team on scheduling and documenting all emergency preparedness drills
Review any potential residents alongside Academic Lead to share concerns or comments

3) Disciplinary Support 
actively engages with students by moving throughout the classroom. This includes walking around the room to observe student progress, provide individual assistance, and assure attentiveness.
In partnership with Academic Lead, monitor all laptops used by residents for any improper use of online activity.
Assist in establishing proper disciplinary actions and serve as support to AL in those actions.
Work with IT team and AL to resolve any technological issues that arise.
Responsible for communicating with counselors on any concerning trends and/or growth patterns in a particular resident related to their academic progress.

4) Faith Filled Guidance 
Must be able to provide non-judgmental gospel-focused guidance when the appropriate opportunity arises
Have a developing, engaged relationship with Jesus

  • Bachelor’s in education or related field, Secondary education experience preferred.
  • At least 1-year prior experience in tutoring, mentoring, or academic instruction
  • Prior experience working with teenagers or adolescents
  • Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Must be able to ascend and descend stairs multiple times during a shift
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, and reach regularly
