Our loving family at Heartland Baptist Church, which has been ministering to the community in Alton, IL (just north of St. Louis) for over fifty years, is seeking a full-time senior pastor. Compensation package will be commensurate with experience and education.

Chooses to live by 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:6-9, 1 Peter 5: 1-2 and agree with Southern Baptist Convention Faith & Message 2000. Earned a degree from seminary and be ordained with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in ministry. Married and not divorced. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite software. Must feel called by our Lord to Heartland Baptist Church.

1. Abbreviated Job Description
a. Lead the ministerial staff and members of the congregation in pastoral care ministries and witness to the members of the community.
b. Offer counseling sessions, perform weddings and conduct funerals for members of the congregation and community.
c. In providing administrative leadership in all areas of the church, the Senior Pastor will:
i. Serve as moderator backup of church business meetings as stipulated by the Constitution.
ii. Serve as Chairperson of the Church Council and liaison between elected church committees.
iii. Represent the church in denominational involvement on the association, state, and national levels.
iv. Participate in joint ministries with other religious bodies and in civil matters that concern the church’s role in the community.
v. Work in conjunction with the Personnel Committee in the annual evaluation of church employees and dismissal of any employee.
vi. Bear direct responsibility for the discipleship and supervision of all members and church staff.
d. The Senior Pastor will:
i. Preach the gospel himself at all worship services or arrange for a suitable replacement.
ii. Serve as the spiritual leader and overseer in presenting the gospel to the church and the community.
iii. Bear responsibility and serve as a model teacher in all parts of the church educational program.
e. In guiding the ministerial staff in the organization of congregational worship, the Senior Pastor will:
i. Direct the planning of all regular & special worship services.
ii. Direct the ordinances of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper per church bylaws.
iii. Counsel with and assist in training of the deacons for their responsibilities.
