Harvest Baptist Church is in the growing community of Paragould, Arkansas. We exist to connect people to God, others and the world through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We seek to develop mature followers of Jesus by creating environments that inspire connections to God, to each other, and to the World.

Our church has seen significant growth over the past three years. We have relocated to a new campus, and we are about to build on again to accommodate for growth. We are seeking to add a Discipleship Pastor to help walk with new believers and seasoned believers in their discipleship journey. Below you will our job description.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Secondary education preferred and/or 10+ years ministry experience.
  • Clear call to vocational ministry.
  • Visible, growing relationship with Christ.
  • Possess the ability to maintain a healthy balance of personal, family, and ministry responsibility.
  • Member of Harvest Baptist Church who fully embraces its values, mission, and purpose.

PURPOSE:

  • The Discipleship Pastor is responsible for equipping members in the work of the church community.
  • This position will also lead and oversee all key discipleship initiatives of the church, including small groups, and engage in activities that help members grow and mature in their faith.
  • To provide vision and direction to the overall discipleship strategy of Harvest Baptist Church; assist the Senior Pastor in implementing churchwide disciple-making vision.

  • Demonstrate a biblical lifestyle and family life that is consistent in word and practice. Consistently meet and strive to maintain the leadership character qualifications as outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1‐7 (qualifications for overseers).
  • Align with The Baptist Faith and Message 2000 of the Southern Baptist Convention.
  • Organizational and administrative abilities to lead multiple areas of ministry and coordinate many volunteers.
  • Proficiency in Connect Group ministry.
  • Strong ability to work with people of various temperaments, gifts, passions, and church backgrounds.
  • Desire to work closely with others (especially staff) to develop meaningful relationships.

Job Description and Responsibilities:

Groups

Develop and lead our church in comprehensive discipleship strategy from Kids Ministry to Senior Adults.

  • Approve, suggest, or develop Connect Groups materials to ensure sound doctrine is maintained in all teaching environments in the church.
  • Recruit, train, and equip Small Group leaders.
  • Ensure effective attendance records (including contact information of all attendees) are kept and then loaded into the church database management system.
  • Develop strategy, recruit, and train leadership for Wednesday night Adult Discipleship Classes.

Assimilation

Develop and implement a strategy to help church members get involved in Connect Groups, serving, and stewardship.

  • Help develop a disciple-making process.
  • Help people discover their spiritual gifting and a place to serve.

General Pastoral Duties

This position is first and foremost a pastoral position. Therefore, there are several pastoral duties that this person will be expected to perform.

  • Fill the pulpit as needed.
  • Conduct weddings/funerals.
  • Attend staff meetings, (executive staff, ministerial staff, and all staff)
  • Attend worship services and other church functions.
  • Oversee the budget for the discipleship ministry of the church.
  • Maintain a learner’s spirit as it pertains to discipleship ministry at HBC.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor.

Experience and Skills

  • Preferred spiritual gifts: leadership, shepherding, teaching, administration.
  • Good steward of financial, physical, and human resources.
  • Possess the ability to embrace innovation and creativity while adapting to growth and change.
  • Possess the ability to use appropriate judgment, discretion, sensitivity, and confidentiality.
  • Proven leadership skills utilizing a cooperative, collaborative, and strategic team leadership style.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills to maintain healthy and motivating relationships with supervisors, coworkers, and volunteers.
  • Highly self-motivated with strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Shares one’s faith in Christ consistently as opportunities arise.
