Job Overview
The Student and Children’s Ministries Pastor is responsible for leading, overseeing, and coordinating all ministry programs and activities designed to disciple children and students from nursery through senior high. This includes teaching, discipleship, evangelism, fellowship, and family support while also integrating both age groups into the life and mission of Emmanuel Baptist Church (EBC).
Job Status
Full-time, exempt.
Primary Responsibilities
Student Ministry (6th – 12th Grade)
- Plan and lead an effective student ministry program that includes fellowship, worship, biblical teaching, discipleship, and evangelism.
- Recruit, train, shepherd, and supervise volunteer leaders for student ministry.
- Encourage student involvement in ministry opportunities and broader church life.
- Maintain consistent communication with students, parents, and volunteer leaders to ensure awareness of ministry opportunities and events.
- Encourage and support parents in their role as primary spiritual influencers of their children.
- Provide biblical counseling and spiritual guidance to students and their parents
- With the support of the Pastoral Assistant provide administrative oversight of the Student Ministry, including:
- Administer and maintain background checks for all Student’s Ministry volunteers.
- Work with the Communications Director to create and distribute promotional and informational materials related to Student’s Ministry.
- Plan for and organize seasonal camps and other extra ministry events.
- Budget planning and management
- Property and resource accountability
- Safety and security
- Energy conservation
Children’s Ministry (Nursery – 5th Grade)
- Choose and oversee all Children’s Ministry curricula.
- Recruit, train, shepherd, and supervise volunteer leaders for Children’s Ministry.
- Oversee AWANA and Vacation Bible School (VBS) programs.
- With the support of the Pastoral Assistant:
- Administer and maintain background checks for all children’s ministry volunteers.
- Work with the Communications Director to create and distribute promotional and informational materials related to children’s ministry.
- Create and communicate the schedule for Sunday morning volunteer teachers and helpers.
- Maintain consistent communication with the Lead Pastor, ministry leaders, and parents regarding ministry details.
- Encourage and support parents in their role as primary spiritual influencers of their children.
- Provide spiritual oversight and direction to ensure the biblical growth and safety of children.
- Create a welcoming and nurturing environment for families and children.
- Foster intentional relationships between children and leaders to encourage spiritual growth.
Additional Responsibilities
- Enforce the policies and procedures outlined in EBC’s Standing Operating Procedure (SOP) for Preventing Abuse of Children and Vulnerable Adults.
- Serve as an elder of EBC, meeting biblical qualifications (1 Timothy 3; Titus 1).
- Contribute to the overall mission and ministries of Emmanuel Baptist Church.
- Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Lead Pastor and Elder Team
- Plan and execute volunteer appreciation events.
Qualifications & Skills
- A committed follower of Jesus Christ with a strong Christian character.
- Called and gifted by God to pastor children, students, and their parents.
- Demonstrates sound biblical teaching and counseling ability.
- Proven ability to disciple and lead students and children in their walk with Christ.
- Able to apply the gospel to his own life, and help others do so as well.
- Able to plan and direct multi-faceted ministries competently.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills.
- Self-motivated and able to anticipate ministry needs.
- Strong ability to delegate various tasks while providing oversight of proper execution.
- Communicates clearly and effectively in both oral and written forms.
- Proficient in recruiting, training, and managing volunteers.
- Effective team builder and motivator with a servant-hearted attitude.
- Approachable, personable, and relational in ministry.
- Either graduated from a like-minded seminary or in the process of doing so.
Supervision: Reports to the Lead Pastor and Elder Team.
