ASSOCIATE PASTOR JOB DESCRIPTION

Purpose:

The Associate Pastor will provide staff support to shepherd and equip the saints of Central Baptist Church. His primary focus will be on adult disciple-making ministries. This role presents a significant opportunity to make a substantial impact on the culture of Central Baptist Church. The pastor in this position should prioritize investing time in others with a leadership/coaching mindset. He will be a culture creating voice who will help our ministries and members become intentional in disciple making and engage in ministry opportunities.

Responsibilities:

  • Vision/Mission Stewarding
    • Support Senior Pastor in disciple-making
    • Encourage and evaluate volunteer leaders and their ministries
  • Connection Group Ministry
    • Support and continue to advance our Connection Group leader
    • Train Connection Group leaders in disciple-making skills
    • Recruit and train new Connection Group leaders
    • Help link people to Connection Groups
  • Equipping Hour Ministry
    • Oversee the ministry with the Equipping Team
    • Train and support teachers in disciple-making
  • General Ministry Responsibilities
    • Shepherd and support deacons
    • Oversee the Assimilation process with a view toward disciple-making
    • Assist with Fellowship Fund as needed
    • Preach in services as needed
    • Participate in staff meetings and special services
    • Complete tasks given by the Senior Pastor or Council of Elders
  • Organizational Responsibilities
    • Oversee adult volunteers and ministries
    • Supervised by the Senior Pastor

Qualifications:

  • Vibrant relationship with the Lord Jesus and growing in Christ-like character
  • Strong biblical and theological foundation and worldview
  • Committed to disciple-making as described in the attached document
  • Committed to developing and maintaining meaningful relationships with church family and people in the community to connect, equip, and send through the power of Jesus
  • Able to communicate God’s truth in a relevant manner
  • Be a team player who is willing to contribute to the overall ministry of Central and support the Lead Pastor and complement his ministry with enthusiasm and wisdom
  • Needs to be a creative thinker, able to generate new ideas and ministry approaches, and must be a self-starter with motivation to follow through
  • Must demonstrate leadership, effective people skills, and consistent desire and ability to train and release others in ministry
  • Able to organize and oversee a ministry using communication, follow-up, planning, and volunteer care
  • Affirm and operate by Central’s statement of faith and teaching statement

Schedule:

This position is a full-time ministry position. This position will involve evening and weekend responsibilities. Central’s ministry staff normally work Sunday to Thursday. Flexibility in the schedule will be taken into consideration when church responsibilities involve Fridays and Saturdays.
