Single Student Housing

Students under the age of 21 are required to live on-campus, in the dormitory, or with an immediate blood relative within a 50-mile radius. Undergraduate single students who apply for housing will automatically be assigned to the dorm. Once the facility reaches capacity, elder undergraduates may be assigned to other non-family accommodations as available. Undergraduate students, age 21 or over, may request available, alternative single student housing. Such requests will only be considered when accompanied by an exception request. Availability, among other considerations, will be determining factors in the approval process for such requests. All requests will be considered, but not all will be granted. MBTS/SC does NOT allow pets unless it is a documented service/emotional support animal and has been approved by submission of an Exception Request.

Non-family housing is assigned through the Student Life office. Assignments commence in mid-December for the spring semester and in mid-July for the fall semester. All housing assignment information is communicated through your student email. Meals, utilities, and room, are included in the single-student undergraduate semester housing fee. A scheduled undergraduate move-in day is established each semester and will be communicated with your housing assignment. All undergraduate students, are required to submit either an Intent to Vacate or Renewal form, at least 30 days prior to that scheduled move out date. All undergraduate single students are required to move out of campus housing on the scheduled move-out day at the end of each semester.

Guest & Visitation Policy

RESIDENCE HALL (DORM) & NON-FAMILY APARTMENTS (SINGLE MEN/WOMEN):

Each hallway within the Residence Hall is assigned to either males or females. No opposite sex visitors are allowed on the hallway at any point in time. Immediate family members (i.e. fathers, sisters, etc.) are the only exception to this rule, but must be preceded with permission from an Resident Assistant (RA). The presence of a visiting family member of the opposite sex must be announced on the hall prior to his/her arrival on the floor.

The ground floor lobby of the Residence Hall is considered community space, but closes at 12:00 midnight on Sunday through Thursday nights, and at 2:00 A.M. on Friday and Saturday nights. Quiet hours within the Residence Hall are from 10:00 P.M. to 7:00 A.M., and are to be honored throughout the building. All rooms on the lower level of the Residence Hall are to remain locked and unoccupied, except in the case of a severe weather emergency.

In the apartments, men and women are permitted to visit each other’s apartments as long as it is a group setting (i.e. at least 3 people are present, not counting the roommate.) Immediate family members (i.e. fathers, sisters, etc.) are the only exception to this rule. No opposite sex visitor should stay past 12:00 midnight on Sunday through Thursday nights, or past 2:00 A.M. on Friday and Saturday nights. If the roommate requests that the visitor leave earlier, then that request should be honored. In an apartment, the living room and kitchen are considered “community areas.” The bedrooms, however, are always off limits to members of the opposite sex.

If a single resident desires to have a same-sex friend sleep over for a night or two, he/she must (a) obtain permission from all roommates prior to the guest arriving; and (b) receive permission from the RA by email or text communication prior to the guest arriving. If the student wishes to host the guest for more than two nights, then (a) prior approval must be given by all roommates; and (b) prior approval must be given by email or text communication by the RA; and (c) any guest staying more than three consecutive days must obtain permission from the Assistant Director of Student Life.

All residents are to honor and respect the preferences of their roommates regarding any visitors, either individuals or groups. It is highly recommended that roommates discuss expectations at the beginning of the semester. Violations of the visitation policy should be reported to the Men’s RA, the Women’s RA, the Assistant Director of Student Life, or Midwestern Security. To disregard this policy will result in consequences as determined by the Dean of Students.
