“MBTS Books” July Giveaway

Posted June 30, 2022 by Brett Fredenberg

Midwestern Seminary’s faculty continues to publish an array of theological and academic resources for the church and for the kingdom. To help equip ministry leaders and local churches, we’re excited to introduce our MBTS Books July Giveaway.

As an institution, Midwestern Seminary prioritizes advancing scholarship through publishing new and relevant books. This summer, we hope to highlight the faculty as not only great professors, but great writers.

As Midwestern Seminary Provost Jason Duesing said, “The community of writers we have at Midwestern Seminary is what makes this a special season in our history.”

“That they write ‘For the Church’ and in genres ranging from full-length biblical commentaries and technical theological and historical treatises to engaging prose for the Christian life- both non-fiction and fiction, means there is a Midwestern Seminary author for every believer and every church.”

In light of this vision, during the month of July, one participant each day will receive a faculty book from Midwestern Seminary. Additionally, Midwestern Seminary will give away a faculty book bundle to one participant at the end of the month.

By engaging each of these timely resources, readers will be challenged to take the next step in their application of theological knowledge for their personal lives and ministries.

Here are a few of the giveaways you can expect to see this month:

Spurgeon Speaks: 4-Volume Set by Jason K. Allen

In the Spurgeon Speaks 4-volume set, Allen seeks to highlight the ministry and teaching of the great London preacher Charles Haddon Spurgeon. Each volume highlights a priority of Spurgeon’s ministry, including books on prayer, scripture, promises, and trials. Allen brings Spurgeon’s teachings to life through timely selections on vital issues. Through reading this volume, Christians of all ages can expect to be refreshed and spurred on in each of these disciplines.

The Mission of the Triune God: A Theology of Acts by Patrick Schreiner

Recently, the doctrine of the Trinity has caused several debates in theological communities. In The Mission of the Triune God, Schreiner points readers to the book of Acts, highlighting how the book’s major themes point to the plan of the Triune God. Readers can expect to not only grow in their theological understanding of the Trinity, but also in their devotional posture toward the Triune God through this excellent new work.

Thomas Jefferson: A Biography of Spirit and Flesh by Thomas S. Kidd

In this moral biography of Thomas Jefferson, Kidd addresses many of the contradictions in Jefferson’s ethical life. With convictions ranging from slavery and virtue to skepticism of the Christian faith, Jefferson presented many tensions in his personal life. Readers will not only learn more about the third president of the United States, but they will also be challenged in several areas in their own lives through taking up this book.

The Gospel Driven Ministry: An Introduction to the Calling and Work of a Pastor by Jared C. Wilson

Gospel-Driven Ministry is another excellent resource on how to best implement metrics of grace into local church ministry. Throughout this book, Wilson helps move the conversation away from the attractional church model to a grace-focused model for ministry. Readers will be encouraged to pursue Jesus in this book over any cultural standard for success in their work as pastors and ministry leaders.

On Worship: A Short Guide to Understanding, Participating In, and Leading Corporate Worship by H.B. Charles Jr.

In his most recent book, Charles highlights one of the most crucial elements for a healthy church- a biblical view of worship. By providing helpful definitions and practical application, he gives pastors and ministry leaders solid handles for how to begin teaching and implementing biblical worship in their local church.
