Midwestern Seminary hosts record number of prospective students for fall preview day

Posted November 8, 2021 by Michael S. Brooks

Midwestern Seminary’s Kansas City campus was humming with energy on Wednesday as the seminary welcomed a record number of guests to campus for the seminary’s fall Preview Day activities.

The day-long event provided prospective students with opportunities to meet with Midwestern Seminary leaders and faculty members, experience various aspects of student life, and get a taste of Slap’s, one of Kansas City’s celebrated barbecue restaurants, at a catered Preview Day luncheon.

“Preview Days are among our most anticipated events each semester, and we have been delighted to host another fantastic group of prospective students and their families on our campus this fall,” Midwestern Seminary President Jason Allen said. “We have been and will always be for the church. That is to say, our primary aim is to equip pastors, ministry leaders, and missionaries for work within local churches.

“Yet, with the expanding emphases of our undergraduate efforts at Spurgeon College and through avenues such as our doctoral programs, we are in a perfect position to train the next generation of scholars, teachers, business leaders, and others similarly interested in marketplace ministry. Many of the prospective students joining us today have varying interests along these lines, and we would be delighted if the Lord should lead them to spend a season training with us.”

After a brief welcome from Midwestern Seminary Vice President of Enrollment Management Camden Pulliam, Preview Day guests joined the campus community for Midwestern’s Wednesday chapel service, hearing a sermon on Ecclesiastes 7 preached by Midwestern Seminary and Spurgeon College Assistant Professor of Pastoral Ministry Jared C. Wilson.

Afterward, prospective students and their families enjoyed Slap’s barbecue for lunch and attended a “For the Church” workshop session featuring brief presentations from Wilson and Allen on the topic of “Three Keys to Faithful Ministry.”

During the afternoon, guests were invited to program-level Q&A sessions with the schools’ academic deans and seminary and college faculty members.

Pulliam reflected on the day with gratitude for what God is continuing to do through the work at Midwestern, saying, “We are thrilled any time we have an opportunity to share what the Lord is doing at Midwestern Seminary and Spurgeon College. Occasions like our fall and spring preview days tend to concentrate those efforts in a unique way.

“Today, we had guests attending from locations as far away as East Africa and others who live within one mile from our campus. Many are sophomores, juniors, and seniors in high school who are considering Spurgeon College as the place to spend their college years, while others are well-advanced in ministry experience and are seeking terminal degrees through our doctoral programs.”

Pulliam added that preview days at Midwestern and Spurgeon College help interested students process the decision to come to college or seminary in real-time and in a setting where they can have questions answered and experience college or seminary life for themselves.

Midwestern Seminary and Spurgeon College’s next Preview Day is scheduled for the spring semester, April 8, 2022. For more information or to register, visit mbts.edu/preview
