Passion for Prayer Workshop Slated for March 26-27 at MBTS

One of the Spring semester's keynote events will take place on March 26-27 in the Downing Room of the Koehn-Myers Center. MBTS will host a Prayer Workshop with the theme, "Creating a Passion for Prayer," that will feature guest lecturer, Dr. Tom Eliff. According to Midwestern leaders, this course is intended to guide students toward deeper intimacy with God through prayer and provide the tools by which they can establish and intensify the prayer life of the local church. The goal is an increase in the effectiveness of both personal and corporate prayer while facing the demands of ministry.
The workshop is free to the public and is also offered for two hours of credit for $100 at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Anyone wishing to register for the course should contact the Registrar's Office at (816) 414-3756 or by e-mail at registrar@mbts.edu.

Rev. Steve Dighton has been the Senior Pastor at Lenexa Baptist Church since 1990. Prior to Lenexa, he was the Senior Pastor at First Baptist Church in Piedmont, Okla. Dighton received his education at Dallas Baptist University and holds two degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Before his call to the ministry, he enjoyed a career in the men's clothing business. While serving as a deacon and a Sunday School teacher at his home church, First Baptist of Ada, Okla., he felt God's call to full time service. The Dighton family moved to Fort Worth, Texas, so he could follow God's leading and attend seminary. Since that time, God has confirmed that calling in many ways. His wife, Mary Dighton, D.D.S., is in private practice in Lenexa. The Dightons have two sons, Chase and Derek. They also have three grandchildren, Cooper, Allison and Johnathan.

Dr. Andrews is a native of Baltimore, Maryland and attended local schools in Maryland before graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Carson–Newman College, Jefferson City, Tennessee. In 1979 he received a Master of Divinity degree from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and in 1983 he graduated with a Master of Theology degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, North Carolina. He completed his graduate studies at Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati, Ohio, earning a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Hebrew and Semitic Languages in 1995.Dr. Steve Andrews has taught Old Testament, Hebrew, and Biblical archaeology at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary since 1998. Currently, Dr. Andrews serves as the director of the PhD program at MBTS. MBTS to host The Scrolls and the Scriptures Conference

Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary will host a debate and lecture series called The Scrolls and the Scriptures Conference here on April 1-3 in the chapel auditorium. The theme of the conference is, “The Bible as Artifact: Who Wrote It and How Was It Preserved.”
The event will kick-off on April 1 at 7 p.m. with a debate between Dr. Craig A. Evans from Acadia University and Dr. Bart D. Ehrman of the University of North Carolina. Both professors are experts in the field of biblical studies, which include the Dead Sea Scrolls and textual criticism. The focus of the debate will center on the reliability of the biblical accounts of the resurrection.
“People want, and need, to know the truth about the Bible’s origin and reliability,” said Dr. Jerry A.
