What an exciting and important week this one has been! I'm writing to you from Juba in southern Sudan. If the referendum for January 9th meets the conditions for validity, it will soon be Juba the capitol of Southern Sudan. A new country will have been established, having met the standards for a free and fair election.
This week I, under the leadership of Ken Welborn, director of Christian Ministries to the United Nations, a NAMB ministry, and a few other Christian leaders have visited and prayed with of this "yet to be born" nation's leaders and President.
Yesterday we participated in a 10 hour prayer service. It was my blessing to speak of God's promises contained in 2 Chronicles 7:14. I sensed that the Lord used my efforts. Let's pray that God will truly bless this people who have suffered so much.
Pray for President Salva Kiir Mayardit. He is a professing Christian, who, I believe, wants, above all else, God's blessings on his nation. He has pledged freedom and openness in what might be a truly democratic nation.
The churches and believers here need your prayers.
1. Pray for God's protection on this place as they move towards the Janaury 9 vote.
2. For wisdom for their leaders and pastors.
3. For the gospel to spread through this nation!
More later. Be blessed! Pray for us.
Phil Roberts
