Ghosts, Goblins and the Gospel workshop coming to MBTS Oct. 14-15
posted on Sep 20, 2010 by StaffJust in time for Halloween, Midwestern will host the Interfaith Workshop on the Occult: Ghosts, Goblins and the Gospel workshop on Oct. 14-15.
The main theme of the class is “What every Christian should know about Spiritism and the Occult.”
Featured speakers for the event include Marcia Montenegro, of Christian Answers for the New Age, and James Walker, president of the Watchman Fellowship. Additionally, Dr. Phil Roberts, the MBTS President, and several MBTS professors will present as well.
Montenegro, who trusted Christ in late 1990, is a former professional astrologer who practiced for 8 years, past president of the Metropolitan Atlanta Astrological Society, and taught astrology for over five years. She was also involved for a number of years in various Eastern, New Age and occult beliefs. She now speaks around the country and on radio, writes for Christian publications and has authored the book, SpellBound: The Paranormal Seduction of Today’s Kids.
Walker is a former fourth generation Mormon with over 20 years of ministry experience in the field of Christian counter-cult evangelism, apologetics, and discernment. He is author of the book, The Concise Guide to Today’s Religions and Spirituality, and coauthor with Bob Waldrep of The Truth Behind “The Secret.”
The Ghosts, Goblins and the Gospel workshop kicks off at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 14, and will be held from 8:30 a.m.-9 p.m. on Oct. 15.
Some of the workshop titles include Montenegro's “What is the Occult?” and “Wicca;” Walker's “Scientology and the Occult” and “Paul’s Psychic Friend: A Scriptural Encounter with the Occult;” and Roberts' “What the Bible says about Ghost, Spirits, and the Occult.”
