Patrick HudsonMidwestern’s chapel service on Feb. 3 at 10 a.m. here will feature a presentation by Lawrence Corley, Director of Builders for Christ and President of CTSM Architects, Inc., in Birmingham, Ala., to discuss plans for the upcoming Chapel at Midwestern construction project.
The 38,935 sq. ft. complex will include a 1,000-seat auditorium, welcome center, classroom space and corridors connecting the current administration and classroom buildings on campus. Additionally, in a recent development, MBTS leaders are in the final stages of negotiating a contract with the J.E. Dunn Construction Company to serve as general contractor for the undertaking.
During the presentation, students, faculty, staff and visitors will receive up-to-the-minute insight into the details of the upcoming construction endeavor, which is one of the largest in MBTS history. The group will also gain insight into the unique volunteer effort being planned, where more than 1,500 volunteers from the local area and across the country will put in more than 60,000 work hours to accomplish one of the largest undertakings since BFC’s inception. According to MBTS leaders, this will be an excellent opportunity for all in attendance to see the synergy and relationships being built during this project involving a non-profit and a faith-based organization.
Among topics to be covered in Corley’s presentation will be an overview of the scope of the project, how BFC and MBTS became partners in the project, BFC’s role in the construction, when groundbreaking and construction will begin, the need for volunteers, and how churches and individuals can sign-up to volunteer.
Since 1982, Corley and the BFC network have spearheaded efforts to assist Southern Baptist churches and organizations primarily in the Northeastern and Midwestern U.S. to build quality facilities with the goal of reaching people in those areas with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Builders for Christ’s volunteers will join hands with MBTS between Memorial Day and Labor Day to assist in the construction of the Chapel at Midwestern complex.
