MIDWESTERN BAPTIST THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY- GRADUATE SCHOOL
Through its masters and doctoral degree programs, Midwestern prepares students to be 21st century ministers who demonstrate commitment to ministerial calling, cultural sensitivity and doctrinal integrity from a Southern Baptist perspective. As such, Midwestern believes that while both men and women are gifted for service in the church, the office of pastor is limited to men as qualified by Scripture. A ministry mindset is instilled in students with an Acts 1:8 foundation. Students are prepared to worship God, evangelize the lost, edify believers and establish healthy New Testament churches for the purpose of glorifying God.
Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary offers three types of master's degrees: a first professional Master of Divinity degree, a professional Master of Arts in: (i.e., Christian Education, Church Music, or Counseling) degree, and an academic or research Master of Arts degree. Several areas of concentration or emphasis are offered under each. A Graduate Certificate in Christian Foundations is also offered.
Midwestern also offers two ministry-related doctoral degrees: Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) and Doctor of Educational Ministry (D.Ed.Min.). These degree programs are designed for those seeking a high level of competence in the practice of ministry. As such, they should be seen in comparison with doctorates in medicine and law that emphasize professional practice rather than with doctorates in philosophy or theology that have a greater emphasis on research.
The doctoral programs at MBTS are seminar based, which means there is no need to relocate to Kansas City. Doctoral-level coursework completed at another ATS accredited institution may transfer in as elective credit, shortening the number of trips a student would need to take to Kansas City. When travel is required, please know that our campus is only 15 minutes from the airport. Limited commuter housing is available on campus for our doctoral students during the seminars.
