Accepted. Now What?

If you’ve applied to Midwestern and have been accepted, you probably have a lot of questions! Here are the top 6 questions asked by incoming students who’ve just been accepted:

“Am I going to get some kind of a mailing from the Admissions office?”

Yes, you are. The Admissions office will be mailing you a packet that will include information about New Student Orientation, how to register for your courses, how to pay for school, how to get to the campus, etc. If you don’t receive this packet in the mail by Aug. 7, call the Admissions office at (816) 414-3738. We’ll get another one in the mail to you – pronto!

“I might want to live on campus. How do I apply for student housing?”

On-campus housing is available for both single and married students. Learn how to apply for campus housing.

NOTE: Housing is assigned in the order in which the housing applications are received, and we anticipate that all units will be filled for the Fall 2009 semester. So you’ll want to act quickly to reserve yours now!

“When do I register for classes? I want to get going!”

You’ll be registering for classes during the afternoon session of New Student Orientation (NSO). Advisors will be present to lead you through this process. If you’re interested in registering for classes before NSO, please contact Vicki Hauser in the Admissions office at (816) 414-3738.

“When do I need to show up on campus? When does everything start?”

If you’re going to be living on campus, you can show up as soon as Saturday, Aug. 15, which is “Move-In Day.” The Student Development office has some fun campus events planned for families and single students starting Monday, Aug. 17, and continuing through the week. See the Welcome Week Schedule for details. Whether you’re living on-campus or not, the absolute you’ve got to be there or else event is New Student Orientation. For college students this happens Thursday, Aug. 20. For graduate students the date is Friday, Aug. 21. New Student Orientation is required for all newly admitted students. The first day of class is Monday, Aug. 24.

“I’m concerned about employment. How do I find a job in Kansas City?”

If you are in need of a job while in school, there are on-campus positions as well as other jobs available nearby, including SAM’s Club, Lowes, Office Max, and UPS. For details, see the Jobs and Ministry Openings page. For more information about Kansas City in general, go to About Kansas City. And for a comprehensive guide to living in the Kansas City community, go to the Community Guide, where you’ll find information on schools, grocery stores, doctors, and every conceivable thing you’ll need to know to enjoy life in your new home.

NOTE: If you’re interested in finding a ministry position at a local church, please know that as a Midwestern student you are eligible to participate in our Ministry Referral program. This free service, based out of the Student Development office, is designed to connect MBTS students interested in ministry positions with area churches searching for ministers. Students may leave their resumes on file, and when area churches request names these resumes will be mailed. If you are interested in finding a ministry position in the Kansas City area, contact Jesse Spencer in the Student Development office at jspencer@mbts.edu or (816) 414-3733 to request more information or to turn in a resume. Go to Ministry Referral & Placement Office for details.

“How am I going to pay for school? Is there financial aid?”
