DeVine teaches theology at Midwestern Seminary.
He received both a Doctor of Philosophy and Masters of Divinity from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and earned his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from Clemson University. After teaching theology at Midwestern from 1994 to 1998, DeVine moved to Thailand to serve with the International Mission Board, returning to the seminary in 2001.
A popular interim pastor with Missouri congregations, DeVine pastored First Baptist Church, Crothersville, Ind.; Sycamore Baptist Church in Charleston, S.C.; and Black Lick Baptist Church in Glendean, Ky. DeVine is the author of Bonhoeffer Speaks Today: Following Jesus at All Costs (Nashville: Broadman & Holman, 2005) and has written extensively for theological journals and contributed to the Disciple's Study Bible.
He is currently the bi-vocational pastor of First Calvary Baptist Church in Kansas City, Mo.
DeVine’s research interests include C.S. Lewis and the Emerging Church.
DeVine and his wife, Jackie, have two sons, Drew and Sam.
