Through Midwestern’s extension and online classes, you can begin your seminary education and make significant progress toward a degree without moving to our Kansas City campus.
Masters-level students can take one-third of their classes at several main off-campus sites and another one-third through online classes. For the typical Masters of Divinity degree student, this allows them to complete approximately 60 hours of academic credit without stepping foot on the campus. Each semester, Midwestern generally offers two classes at each extension site and two classes online (occasionally there may be more, so make sure to check back often). Extension classes are taught by Midwestern professors or qualified adjuncts. Core courses are offered on a three-year rotation, including biblical languages.
Students must complete at least 30 on-campus hours, according to accreditation standards. However, the on-campus requirement can be fulfilled through one-week January terms and summer classes, as well as through the many workshops and seminars offered throughout the year. One- and two-day workshops are good ways to earn the elective credits required in most degree plans.
Additionally, one-day classes on Mondays allow students to drive in to Kansas City, take needed classes and return home. Evening classes also add another option for the off-campus student to earn on-campus hours. Evening classes are on a five-year rotation for the Masters of Divinity degree. For more information on what’s offered in these classes, refer to our main course schedule.
