Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary offers three doctoral programs, the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Old or New Testament studies, the Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) and the Doctor of Educational Ministry (D.Ed.Min.).
Professional Doctorates: The Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) and Doctor of Educational Ministry (D.Ed.Min.) are professional doctorates, and as such, are ministry-based programs designed for persons seeking a high level of competence in the practice of ministry, with a secondary interest in teaching and research. These programs should be seen in comparison with doctorates in medicine and law that emphasize professional practice.
The professional doctorates at MBTS are seminar based, which means there is no need to relocate to Kansas City. Doctoral-level coursework completed at another ATS accredited institution may transfer in as elective credit, shortening the number of trips a student would need to take to Kansas City. When travel is required, our campus is only 15 minutes from the airport. Limited commuter housing is available on campus for our doctoral students during the seminars.
Ph.D.: The research doctorate (Ph.D.) with concentrations in Old Testament or New Testament is a residential program, requiring weekly class attendance. The Ph.D. is intended primarily to equip persons for vocations of teaching and research in theological schools, colleges, and universities, or for the scholarly enhancement of ministerial practice.
These degree programs are under the direction of the Doctoral Studies Office. For more information call 877-414-3755 or e-mail docstudies@mbts.edu.
