It is my privilege to welcome you to the website of Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and College, SBC! I’m especially thankful that you decided to visit our site and wish to discover more about this wonderful institution. As you search for the direction our Lord Jesus Christ would have you to go for your ministry education, let me introduce you to our mission and how we go about accomplishing the assignment God has given us to impact the world with His Gospel.

Let me begin by sharing with you our mission statement. “Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary serves the church by biblically educating God-called men and women to be and make disciples of Jesus Christ.

With this assignment from the Lord, we prepare our students to be leaders who demonstrate commitment to ministerial calling and Christian leadership with cultural sensitivity and doctrinal integrity. We are a Southern Baptist institution but we also serve students and learners from a variety of other denominations. We seek to develop leaders who exemplify and communicate the Great Commission in their ministry settings. Through its educational processes, MBTS will produce students who:

  • believe that the Bible is inspired, authoritative and inerrant
  • understand and apply biblical truth
  • exemplify biblical leadership and doctrinal integrity in ministry
  • demonstrate Christ-likeness in seeking and cultivating all relationships
  • manifest a developing and disciplined Christian life
  • commit themselves to fulfilling the Great Commission in worshipping God, evangelizing the lost, discipling believers, and establishing healthy biblical churches in culturally-relevant ways.

We have further developed our mission statement into three core values. The entire scheme of our core values statement, Veritas, Pietas, Missio - Knowing, Being, Doing - is based on a process of first knowing God’s truth, then being and becoming what He would have us to be as a thoughtful, devoted and committed disciple. Finally, it is vital for all of us to be engaged as responsible ambassadors for Jesus Christ and His Gospel.

Part of this process, in terms of devotion, also means strengthening our relationship with Jesus Christ and walking in fellowship and communion with the Holy Spirit. Contrary to most seminary experiences, it has been my observation that our students here at Midwestern, when they leave us to go into further service to Christ, experience and know a deeper and more fulfilling relationship with Jesus than when they first arrived.

The last key element of the mission statement is to “Do,” and that involves us taking the great truths that God has instilled and embedded in our hearts and our lives and putting them into practice for the sake of the Kingdom. For students to be educated at Midwestern and for them not to be fully involved in evangelism, missions, discipling and church planting would be tragic indeed. The entire purpose and calling of this institution is to provide the Kingdom of God with servants for the furtherance of the Gospel.

If this mission lines up with the leading you’ve received from the Holy Spirit, then Midwestern may very well be the place for you to pursue your calling through biblical education. I strongly encourage you to set up a campus visit or to contact our Admissions office to find out more information about MBTS. I’ll be praying for you as you seek His direction.

Yours and His,
