Christian George

Assistant Professor of Historical Theology, Curator of the Spurgeon Library


Dr. Christian T. George serves as assistant professor of historical theology and curator of the Spurgeon Library. He is a graduate of Samford University (B.S.), Beeson Divinity School (M.Div.), and the University of St. Andrews in Scotland (Ph.D. in Theology). From 2011-2014, he served on the faculty of Oklahoma Baptist University as the Jewell and Joe L. Huitt Assistant Professor of Religious Education.

George has authored several books, including Sacred Travels (InterVarsity Press), Sex, Sushi, & Salvation (Moody Publishers) and Godology (Moody Publishers). He is editor of the twelve-volume series The Lost Sermons of C. H. Spurgeon: His Earliest Outlines and Sermons between 1851-1854 (B&H Academic, 2017-2024).

Recently, George has contributed chapters to The Jonathan Edwards Encyclopedia (Yale University Press, 2017), A Legacy of Preaching (Zondervan, 2018), The SBC and the 21st Century (B&H Academic, 2016), and Portraits of a Pastor (Moody, 2017). He has also provided articles for the Global Sermon Editing Project (Yale University), Oxford University’s Journal of Theological Studies, Society for the Study of Theology, Theology in Scotland, Perichoresis Journal of Theology, Modern Reformation, Conversations, Credo Magazine, and Preaching, among many others.

George is the chair of the Church History Since 1700 session of the Evangelical Theological Society and has presented papers internationally at the Society for the Study of Theology in the Netherlands; the History of Scotland Forum in Scotland; and Interdisciplinarity in Theology and Religion in England. He has also lectured on Christian spirituality at the University of Rome in Italy.

George has appeared on Fox News, Glenn Beck’s “The Vault,” and “The Eric Metaxas Show.” His interviews have been featured on Moody Broadcasting Radio, “Haven Today with Charles Morris,” “Janet Mefferd Today,” and numerous other nationally syndicated radio shows. In 2015, George appeared in the groundbreaking documentary “Through the Eyes of Spurgeon.” His research and writing has been profiled by Christianity Today, The Christian Century, and Challies.com, and he has published online with Patheos, The Gospel Coalition, and Desiring God. George has contributed to The Institute on Religion and Democracy and the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention. He writes regularly for Lifeway Christian Resources’ Bible study curriculum The Gospel Project.

In 2017, George delivered the William E. Conger Lectures on Preaching at Beeson Divinity School, Samford University, and also preached at the International Congress on Preaching in Cambridge, England. He also organized The Spurgeon Conference at Spurgeon’s College in London – the first of its kind since 1934. George preaches regularly in churches throughout North America and Europe and in university chapel services such as at Union University, Bryan College, Grace University, Oklahoma Baptist University, and Southeastern Bible College, among others.

Christian and his wife, Rebecca, live in Kansas City and are members of Lenexa Baptist Church. He has served his denomination by representing his local church as a messenger to the Southern Baptist Convention, delivering lectures at the SBC, and serving on the Teller’s Committee. He is also a member of the Baptist History & Heritage Commission of the Baptist World Alliance and has participated in BWA meetings in South Korea, Sweden, Germany, Canada, and Chile. George’s passion for world evangelism and missions has taken him to more than thirty countries. He leads pastors and students on study tours, including a Protestant Reformation tour in Germany and Switzerland, an Oxford study tour, and numerous Charles Spurgeon tours throughout the United Kingdom.

George blogs weekly at www.spurgeon.org, the largest online collection of Spurgeon resources. In his spare time, he enjoys practicing martial arts, playing jazz piano, and challenging students to table tennis matches.
